About Us

The Shadhiliyya Sufi tradition is one of growing in love, mercy, peace, freedom, unity and surrender to God. This ancient spiritual tradition is an inner way that opens our hearts to God’s reality. Our Guide in this journey is Sidi al-Jamal, head of the Higher Sufi Council in Jerusalem. The SSC East, like our national Center, the Shadhiliyya Sufi Center of North America in California, offers a variety of programs, events, retreats, and healing intensives to help anyone journey more closely to experiencing the deep Love that lies within each heart.
The Farm of Peace, our spiritual center, is located on 150 rolling acres near Warfordsburg, Pa. The Farm of Peace is a center for zawiyah (spiritual retreat), community gatherings, and teachings. It is a working farm where chickens for eggs and for meat, sheep and bees are raised and where vegetables, fruits and herbs are grown organically.
Healing in the Sufi way means bringing the Deep Love of God to the places that are in pain or separation whether in body, mind, heart or spirit. Our community has many healers who have been trained through the University of Spiritual Healing & Sufism (formerly Jaffe Institute). Under the direction of Salima Adelstein, our Community Director and Master Sufi teacher and Master Healer, we offer healing intensive retreats, spiritual retreats (zawiyah), and Salima Healing Seminars throughout the year (see links at top).
Our community comes together weekly for Sufi healing circles (dhikr) in Frederick, Md., at the Farm of Peace, and in the greater Baltimore and Silver Spring, Md., areas. Everyone is welcome to join in these community prayer and healing events. Please check the Events page for a schedule for dhikr and other community events.

Sidi, Guide of the Shadhiliyya Path
Sidi, Shaykh Muhammad Said al-Jamal ar-Rifa’i ash-Shadhuli, is the Guide of the Shadhiliyya
Sufi Tariqa (path).
Sidi is the Guide of the Peace, Love, and Mercy. He travels throughout the world giving his teachings to those who are thirsty for the truth and helping them to heal their bodies, hearts, and spirits. Since 1994, he has visited the U.S. during the summer, when he gathers the beloveds and those seeking greater love and truth to Sufi School in California, Maryland, and other areas of the nation.
Sidi’s teachings help us walk through the 28 Stations of the Way to the unity of God’s love. He has written many books to help his beloveds open their hearts to live in God’s reality, including Music of the Soul, Path to Allah Most High, Conversations in the Zawiyah, and many more. A master healer and herbalist, Sidi’s Spiritual Healing and Natural Medicine provides remedies for healing through herbs and other plants, such as the garlic being grown on the holy land of the Farm of Peace in Pennsylvania.
The Guide opens his heart to help everyone all over the world. He works for all those who are suffering and who need food and clothes. He is a leader who helps to keep peace and who serves humanity without prejudice.
For forty years, Sidi has lived on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem and has worked to bring peace to the people. He is the Head of the Higher Sufi Council in Jerusalem and has been a teacher and central figure at the Masjid al-Aqsa or the Dome of the Rock for many years.
